What is Encore! Fayette?
A nonprofit community-based program designed to enable seniors to:
- Learn more about their community; the important issues/challenges it faces
- Identify the primary community needs
- Determine how they can become involved and make a difference
The program has been established by FACTOR, (Fayette Alliance Coordinating Teamwork, Outreach and Resources) in partnership with Clayton State University, Department of Continuing Education Lifelong Learning Program.
The name Encore! is an acronym: Retired Leaders - Enriching and Nurturing the Community by Offering Resources and Experience – to meet community needs
Why an Encore! Fayette Program?
Of the over 110,000 Fayette County residents, over 15,000 (13%) are 65+ seniors. This senior population will reach over 45,000 by 2030. Today’s older citizens are very different from their parents. Their life span is longer and good health generally continues for 20 more years after retirement. For many there now is time to get involved in community. About 30 communities across the nation have seen the potential of these seniors and have successfully established Leadership Development Projects “to engage and/or reengage their seniors for community betterment. Encore! Fayette is patterned after the most successful of these programs.
How Does Encore! Fayette Work?
It designs and carries out a series of day-long learning sessions held during January through March that provide an in-depth review of all aspects of the community. Due to the quality and depth of the program’s content, Clayton State University, offers Continuing Education Unit credits to those who complete the program
